Upgrade from 317mm to 340mm Front Rotors

The GiroDisc A1-031 provides an increase in front rotor diameter from the original 317mm to 340mm.

The larger rotor increases the effective braking radius, providing additional braking leverage, while the larger friction ring offers greater thermal capacity and cooling potential.

This makes the system particularly attractive for Porsche owners participating in track days, driver education events, and club racing.

Porsche 996 / 997.1 Carrera Applications

The A1-031 is designed for compatible Porsche 996 and 997.1 Carrera brake systems.

GiroDisc also lists applications within the Porsche 986 Boxster and 987 Boxster/Cayman families.

Fitment depends on the original brake package, rotor dimensions, and caliper configuration. Not every model or trim within these generations uses the same front brake system.

Two-Piece Floating Rotor Construction

Each rotor features a proprietary GiroDisc cast-iron friction ring mounted to a lightweight center hat machined from 6061-T6 aluminum.

The floating mounting system uses 10 high-strength alloy-steel drive pins to transmit braking forces while allowing controlled movement between the friction ring and aluminum hat.

Class 12.9 cap screws, hardened washers, and anti-noise spring washers complete the floating assembly.

This construction accommodates thermal expansion during repeated heavy braking and allows the friction rings to self-center between the brake pads.

Curved-Vane Internal Cooling

GiroDisc uses curved internal cooling vanes developed for motorsports applications.

As the rotor rotates, the vanes promote airflow through the friction ring, helping manage temperatures during repeated braking cycles.

Combined with the larger rotor diameter, this provides an upgrade over the original smaller-diameter rotor configuration.

Slotted Racing Friction Surface

The GiroDisc friction rings feature a slotted surface designed for compatible performance and competition brake pads.

The slots help maintain a consistent pad-to-rotor interface during demanding braking conditions and provide an alternative to cross-drilled friction surfaces.

Caliper Spacers and Longer Bolts Included

Because the A1-031 increases the rotor diameter from 317mm to 340mm, the brake calipers must be repositioned to accommodate the larger rotors.

GiroDisc includes the required caliper spacers and longer mounting bolts for the intended applications.

This allows installation while retaining the compatible factory calipers.

Replace the Rings – Keep the Hats

The GiroDisc two-piece rotor design allows worn cast-iron friction rings to be replaced separately from the aluminum center hats.

Once the friction rings reach their service limit, the existing GiroDisc hats may be reused provided they remain serviceable.

This makes the system particularly useful for track-driven vehicles that require periodic rotor replacement.
